I thought I’d start off 2019 with the term “Badass”. A gift from my mother, I’ve read @JenSincero’s book, “You Are A Badass”. But this holiday, from my stepson, Sam, I received her new book, “You Are A Badass at Making Money”. Not lost on me is the irony of reading, “You Are a Badass at Making Money”, just two months after leaving my well-paying job in LA.
As a descriptor, “Badass” is ok… better for sure than, “Boss Bitches”. That term, an ad agency staple for years, used with the best of intentions, and somehow meant to make women feel empowered, never sat well with me.
When I left 72andSunny my amazing PAL team made me a video of each of them expressing how I impacted them a leader. May everyone experience this in their lifetime. A bit of a tearjerker. Many said I was a “badass”. So I did what anyone with some time on their hands would do and Googled “Badass”.
Am I a Badass??? I have always spoken up for myself, asked for what I wanted, expected to be paid my worth, and fought for what’s right, for myself and others. I suppose those things could be confused with being uncompromising and intimidating? I guess I’m ok with that.
